Can you easily close and re-open your Shopify store anytime?
Suppose you have a holiday or festive-only shop where you won’t get consistent orders throughout the year. It’s likely that you may want to close your shop after the holiday season so that you don’t have to pay Shopify’s charges.
But can you close and re-open your Shopify store whenever you want? Let’s discuss this in detail.
Can you re-open your closed Shopify store?
At the moment, Shopify only saves the data from your account for a month after closing. The duration is subject to change depending on the platform’s future updates. That’s why it’s best to backup your shop’s theme and products.
How to create a backup for your store
There are a few different ways to backup your store. You can take the easy route and use an app or export CSV files.
Using CSV files
To back up the store’s theme, download it from your Shopify admin. The CSV files can be used to export the following information about the store:
- Gift card codes
- Discount codes
- Financial data
Keep in mind that when you purchase a Shopify theme from the Store, it’s only licensed for the store you initially got it for. To transfer this license to another store, you’ll have to get in touch with Shopify Support.
You can get the CSV files from your store using two ways:
- Go to Products and then to Customers in your Shopify Admin page. Import the files accordingly
- You can also use the Store Importer app. It helps you import CSV files for inventory data, customers, and products
Once you’re ready to open your store again, you can get the information from the relevant CSV files.
Using an app
Rewind Backups is an app that automatically backs up your store every day. All you have to do is set up the app, and it will back up your store while you sleep.
Currently, more than 25,000 stores are using it. For more information, you can get in touch with the developers through phone, email, and chat.
