The default texts on Shopify’s order confirmation page are designed to be universally applicable to any store.

However, updating these texts to better match your brand’s voice and messaging can enhance customer experience and reinforce your brand identity.

Here’s how you can customize the text on the order confirmation page.

How to Change the Text on the Shopify Order Confirmation Page

Follow these simple steps to change the order confirmation page text:

  1. Log in to Shopify Admin:
    • Navigate to your Shopify admin panel.
  2. Access the Online Store Channel:
    • Go to the Online Store section from the left-hand side of the page.
  3. Open Themes Menu:
    • In the Themes section, click on the Actions dropdown menu.
  4. Edit Language:
    • Select Edit Default Theme Content from the dropdown.
    • Find the order confirmation section and modify the text as per your preferences.

Important Update: Checkout Extensibility (2025)

As of August 2025, Shopify has deprecated the use of checkout.liquid and additional scripts for customizing Thank You and Order Status pages. If you’re using these legacy methods, you need to upgrade to Checkout Extensibility.

Key Deadlines:

  • Shopify Plus stores: August 28, 2025 (deadline has passed – automatic upgrades began)
  • Non-Plus stores: August 26, 2026

If you haven’t upgraded by these deadlines, Shopify will automatically upgrade your store, and any customizations using additional scripts or checkout.liquid will be lost.

Understanding the New Checkout Extensibility

Checkout Extensibility is Shopify’s modern approach to checkout customization. It offers several advantages:

  • More secure: Customizations run in a sandboxed environment
  • Upgrade-safe: No need for periodic manual upgrades when Shopify releases updates
  • App-based: Use apps with blocks and pixels instead of custom code
  • Better performance: Optimized for speed and Shop Pay integration

How to Customize Text Using the Checkout and Accounts Editor

With Checkout Extensibility, you can customize your order confirmation page through the new editor:

  1. Navigate to Settings:
    • From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout
  2. Access the Editor:
    • Use the checkout and accounts editor to customize the appearance and functionality of your Thank You and Order Status pages
  3. Add Custom Content:
    • Install apps from the Shopify App Store that support checkout UI extensions
    • Use app blocks to add custom messages and content to your confirmation pages

Migrating from Additional Scripts

If you previously used the Additional Scripts section (found under Settings > Checkout > Order Status Page), this feature is now view-only as of August 28, 2025. You can no longer manually edit additional scripts.

To replace your previous customizations:

  • For tracking and analytics: Use Customer Events and Custom Pixels instead of additional scripts
  • For page customizations: Use app blocks in the checkout and accounts editor
  • Check your upgrade guide: Shopify provides a personalized upgrade guide in Settings > Checkout showing which customizations need updating

Sample Message Script (Legacy Method – For Reference Only)

Note: This method using additional scripts is deprecated. Keep this for reference if you’re on an older setup, but plan to migrate to Checkout Extensibility.

You'll receive a confirmation email with your order number shortly.
To be sure all {{ shop.name }} emails stay out of your Junk or Spam folder,
please add {{ shop.email }} to your Address Book.

Benefits of Customizing Order Confirmation Texts

  1. Brand Consistency:
    • Ensures all communication aligns with your brand’s voice and personality.
  2. Customer Engagement:
    • Personalized messages can enhance customer experience and foster loyalty.
  3. Professionalism:
    • Customized messages can make your store appear more professional and attentive to details.
  4. Clear Instructions:
    • Provides clear instructions to customers, such as adding your email to their address book to avoid missing important updates.

Using Apps to Extend the Checkout

With Checkout Extensibility now the standard, apps have become the primary way to customize your order confirmation pages. These apps use checkout UI extensions to add custom content and functionality.

We have a great round up of checkout apps that work with the new extensibility features here.

Popular use cases for checkout apps include:

  • Adding custom messages and branding
  • Displaying upsells and cross-sells
  • Collecting additional customer information
  • Showing post-purchase surveys
  • Adding trust badges and guarantees

Conclusion

Customizing the text on your Shopify order confirmation page is a simple yet effective way to enhance your customer experience and reinforce your brand’s messaging.

With Shopify’s transition to Checkout Extensibility in 2025, the method for customization has evolved to be more secure, performant, and easier to maintain. Whether you’re editing language through your theme settings or using modern checkout apps with UI extensions, updating these texts can make your store appear more professional and customer-friendly.

If you’re still using checkout.liquid or additional scripts, make sure to review Shopify’s upgrade guide and migrate to Checkout Extensibility before the deadline to avoid losing your customizations. Take the time to craft messages that reflect your brand’s personality and make your customers feel valued and appreciated.

This small adjustment can have a significant impact on customer satisfaction and loyalty.
